THE NADCITADEL JOURNAL

How a Book Trailer Can Introduce Your Book

Give a short video one clear job: help the right reader take the next step.

Choose one purpose

A short video cannot carry the whole book. Decide whether it should introduce the subject, reveal the cover, show the interior or announce availability. A focused goal makes it easier to choose the right visuals and ending.

Build around the real book

Use approved covers, sample pages and a short script. If the video includes mockups, check that the displayed title, author name and page content match the supplied assets. Attractive motion is less useful when it misrepresents the book.

Plan before generating

A storyboard establishes the sequence of images and the job of each shot. Agree on the visual direction, narration and on-screen text before production. When AI tools are involved, allow time to review visual consistency and correct unwanted changes.

Design for the viewing context

A social feed, a website player and an event screen have different needs. Discuss orientation, length, readability and whether the story still makes sense with sound off. Captions or concise on-screen wording may help where appropriate.

End with an available next step

Direct viewers to a real destination: a book page, sample chapter or project enquiry. A trailer is an introduction, not a guarantee of sales. Judge it first by whether it communicates the book clearly to its intended audience.
